Adriana-Corina Iotcov Freelance Translator

Frequently Asked Questions

Which languages do you translate into?

I provide English into Romanian and Spanish into Romanian translations. Upon request I also translate from Romanian into English. In this case proofreading by a native speaker becomes the client's responsibility.

What are your qualifications?

I have an MA degree in American Studies and a BA degree in foreign languages (English major, Spanish minor). I also completed a four-semester translation module as part of my BA studies.

Are you certified?

Yes, I obtained my Translator's Licence from the Romanian Ministry of Justice in November 2007 (this is the most frequent official form of translator certification in Romania).

How long have you been working in the translation industry?

I was employed as an in-house English translator in October 2007, and my freelancing career began in January 2008. Before that translation was a labour of love (and it still is!).

What do you charge?

For an exact price quote, please send me an email. My rates will vary according to language pair, deadline, format of the file and complexity of the text.

Do specialized translations cost more? Why?

Specialized translations will always cost more than the translation of general texts, because there is more research involved in producing a high-quality translation if dealing with a specialized text as compared to general texts. Terminology must be looked up, checked in context and translated as correctly as possible, depending on the target audience of your translation.

What is your quality assurance process?

My quality assurance process includes several stages:

  • Checking the target text against the source text in order to ensure the integrity of the text and terminological consistency.
  • Using a spell checker.
  • Rereading the text in order to check its coherence, style, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Running a final check using software such as Xbench or SDL Trados QA checkers.

All translations will comply with the linguistic standards in force.

Why should I work with a freelancer?

Because you will always know exactly who is handling your text. You will know my precise qualification, my knowledge level, my style and expertise. Everything is up front and you will be in control. This will increase the confidentiality of your information and will also reduce costs because there are no middle men.

Can you provide some references?

Please see the References section.

What CAT (computer-aided translation) tools do you use?

I use SDL Trados, TagEditor, Passolo, Idiom WorldServer Desktop Workbench, Across. I can also learn to use other software if necessary.

Can I see some samples of your work?

You can read my translations for news organization Watching America here. Some samples are also available on my Proz profile here. I have also compiled a sample portfolio I can email to you, so feel free to ask.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include literature, music, technology, web design (this page is my creation), human and animal rights, the environment.
